This past week was full of some not so fun stuff like my trip to the dentist and Emily's cold, but it was full of some fun stuff as well.
I told Emily she could invite some of her friends over for dinner and a movie over the weekend. The kids asked for tacos which was fine by me because tacos are easy peasy. Add a fruit tray with homemade fruit dip and my ooey gooey brownies and a complaint free night is almost guaranteed.
It was also an excuse to use our popcorn machine for the first time. It was one of those nostalgic buys when I remodeled the basement rec room because let's face it, pop corn machines look cool. It was fun to watch the kernels pop and tip the little bucket into the bin. It was fun to pour the melted butter and salt the finished corn. But after eating so much microwave popcorn, the machine corn seemed a bit soggy from the butter. Oh well, the machine still looks cool.
This weekend was also my opportunity to read Potato Pants by Laurie Keller who both authored and illustrated this funny work. It is the story of Potato who is so excited that potato pants will be on sale at Lance Vance's Fancy Pants Store that he rushes over early. Only, much to his dismay, he see Eggplant in the store. The day before Eggplant had knocked Potato down without as much as a backward glance so Potato is reluctant to enter and purchase the coveted pair of pants.
As Potato lingers hoping Eggplant will leave, the pants selection grows slimmer and slimmer. Finally, Potato can take it no longer and rushes in to snag a deal. In the process, he bumps Eggplant and misses buying the last pair of pants on the rack. Potato is sure that Eggplant will now mash him, but to his surprise Eggplant is there to apologize for knocking Potato down the day before in a rush to buy his own eggplant pants. The surprise ending will leave the reader satisfied in this fun story about assumptions and forgiveness.
I hope you enjoyed a brief glimpse into my week as well as my foray into the kidlit world. I also hope to see you here again next Monday.
Wishes for a week full of wonder!
Aileen
