Those of you who know me, know I am sort of a foodie. I belong to my libraries Cook Book Club. I watch numerous food shows. I scavenge Pinterest for recipes. And I bake and cook with abandon. And now that Farmers' Market is over for the season, I am once again subjecting my family to a myriad of new taste sensations. This weeks Pinterest find was Mexican Pork Carnitas simmered in the crockpot. The finished product was used to make street tacos overflowing with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream.
So imagine my surprise when I shuffled through my pile of weekly library books and found On Top of Spaghetti. Not only does this book fit in with my love of food, it's also based on a beloved children's song by the same name. A song I remember singing when I was a youngster.
Written and illustrated by Paul Brett Johnson with original lyrics by Tom Glazer an American folk singer from the early sixties, this book is down right hilarious. The MC is a daring dog trying to save his restaurant, Yodeler Jones Spaghetti Emporium & Musicale, from closure with a new recipe. Unfortunately a sneeze sends his giant meatball on a fantastic journey before he has a chance to taste it. Colorful language, detailed illustrations, and down right silly situations make this a book worth reading again and again!
I hope you enjoyed a brief glimpse into my week as well as my foray into the kidlit world. I also hope to see you here again next Monday.
Wishes for a week full of wonder!
